What is Yoga?
The word Yoga means ‘Union’ – the Uniting of our inner world and the outer world. Uniting with divine consciousness, the divinity within you.
Yoga is a way of life, not just a series of exercises on the mat. It approaches one’s life as a spiritual journey, helping you to connect to your highest truth.
It creates support for all aspects of the being: physical, emotional, mental, energetic and spiritual. This support is found through breath, movement, meditation, mantra, sound, spiritual philosophy and way of life.
What is Hatha yoga
Refers to a series of physical postures, known as asanas. The postures are designed to open the body so energy can flow freely. Special attention is given to the body’s main energy channel and balancing the energy centers (chakras) in the body.
The path of yoga is a powerful tool for self-transformation. It calls for us to be present in the unfolding of each moment. Each posture is a meditation with the mind focused on positioning the body and maintaining a continuous flow of breath. Once physically aligned, the attention shifts to the amount of exertion in the body – inviting it to soften and release.
Benefits of Hatha Yoga
- Cultivates a balance of strength and flexibility in your body and mind
- Calms your mind and nervous system to reduce stress
- Develops presence and connection
- Improves your breathing capacity
- Opens energetic pathways
- Gives a feeling of peace, relaxation and centeredness after practice
- The beauty of yoga comes from taking the practice off the mat and into everyday life. How one approaches their practice on the mat acts as a mirror for how one approaches life.
